Here's a quote from a message board which is very telling to me.
"English is my third language. I never knew anybody who had problems choosing between "you're" and "your" until I met people whose native language is english."

What it's telling to me is that the poster pronounces them differently, which for most native English speakers means he/she has an accent. Don't judge me. Look back at everything I've written since sixth grade; you'll very rarely find me swapping these homophones. But it is a natural mistake to make just like "its" and "it's" (my hunch is that the poster did know people that mixed up those two despite it being the exact same problem)...Or are we talking about people who don't know the difference between the two, or people who can't be bothered to type the right thing (although, they probably always type 'ur' instead).
